Florìs

Centro Zaffiria(Italy)

About

The app “Florìs” leads along the users in exploring a virtual garden; through some simple clues they are asked to search for various insects (or sometimes other animals or items) that live there. Every insect reached leads to the birth of new flowers, which makes the discovery journey the key for growth and prosperity of the garden. The app was designed and developed by Zaffiria with the French artist Louis Rigaud; he worked with kids from the schools of the Friuli region (Italy) leading them in creating flowers and insects that populate this wonderful garden. But the main feature of “Florìs” is the unique possibility for players to become creators themselves! They can draw an insect (any insect!) on paper, and simply digitize it with the mobile camera. The app will automatically animate the parts of the insects and make it fly around the garden (e.g. the bee in attached “Floris_screen-1.jpg”), as a vital part of the discovery journey! The app is available in three languages: Italian, French and English (the language will be automatically selected based on the device’s settings); the webApp is available only in Italian.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity and for the prize.
We really believe that technology can be a tool for creativity and creation from children to teenagers.
In this case Floris was co-designed with them so many thanks.
See you in Italy!

Comment by Juror

Floris can relive the player’s childhood days when we used to run after grasshoppers and butterflies through beautiful flowers and plants through this amazing graphic. As the experiences in nature is disappearing from our daily life, this Digital Ehon is an excellent work which offers a chance for today’s children to experience the beauty and the wonders of nature.(Yoichi Sakakibara)
