About

This interactive artwork Yuki Frame was created as one of the activities at the Sapporo International Art Festival 2024’s SIAF School. The school was organized to experiment elementary programming education into actual art practice. In summer of 2023, an art unit Fujimori visited eleven elementary schools and one junior high school in Sapporo to create snowflakes through programming. All the snowflakes created at these schools and others gathered through public participation were brought together as an exhibition: Yuki Frame. It was displayed at the Sapporo International Art Festival 2024’s Future Theater (Mirai Gekijyo).

Hello. This is Jun Fujiki and Hiroko Fujiki from Fujimori. We live in Sapporo at the moment. We, the Fujiki family are a family of three, and when you write it, there are 3 ‘trees’. That’s why we call ourselves “Fuji Mori” (In Japanese kanji, ‘Mori’ in constructed with combining 3 trees). We are truly grateful and happy to have our work recognized. This work was created along with the Sapporo International Art Festival secretariat and the students from elementary and junior high schools in Sapporo. We’d like to thank the judges at the Digital Ehon Award for honoring our work.

The snowflakes falling from the winter sky is basically a hexagon, but when you look closely, they are all different. Though it is a natural object, it is formed geometrically. Each one of them has its own beauty, and at the same time, I find peace of mind in them. In this project, they created snowflakes through programming, and then actually displayed the beauty of the snowflakes through interactive exhibition venue’s ‘Yuki Frame’. One-and-only art work such as an artist’s picture of winter landscape and even your own shadow was combined with these snowflakes. What a romantic and fun experience! I wish I had a chance to take part of it.
