The little one pulls out the bear who isolated itself in a hole and goes out to adventure the big world. The smooth movement when you try to pull the bear is somewhat humorous and pleasant. Although the illustrations are composed of simple lines, it creates a poetic atmosphere, evoking a vast and profound world. The heart-warming music is wonderful, too. I felt The Bear opened a new door of potential for the authentic Digital Ehon. (Koji Ishikawa)

With the evolution of hardware specs such as iPad and tablets, the graphic resolution is getting better than ever, making it possible for us to create a work at the same level as VFX in movies. Yet, The Bear sticks to a matte graphic expression. This unique texture takes full advantage of this by using up-to-date operation due to its implementation of high refresh rates (which results to creating precise and smooth movements). I felt the balance of the graphic artistry and engineering skills is perfect and felt that this deserves to win the prize. I think I rambled enough, but what I want to say is that the charming characters are fun to play with, and it melted my heart. I am assuming there is are more side stories to come, so I would like to enjoy it with my kids.

I was drawn by the unique world of the big bear and the little one living in a hole. As the little one tries everything it can to get the bear outside, the bear gradually moves. The bear seems to be afraid of stepping out to the outer world, but tries to face outside. It is just like trying to talk socially isolated kids to get out of their shell. The player sympathizes with with the little one as they keep on trying to persuade the big bear. Then the little one tells a story about its own sister breaking out of the egg shell and how the starry sky spread beyond the crack was the most beautiful thing it has ever seen. Eventually, the big bear tries to get out on its own, leading to a touching ending. When we reach the end, the player feels the same fullness, just the characters we interacted with. Out of all the works I’ve seen, this one left a footprint in my heart. As I went on with the story, I felt a sense of togetherness when reading this work, and this is what makes the Bear so special.
